Getting a good night sleep with toothache can be devastating. Some simple tips can help manage your pain until you seek dental help.1

·        Pain killers which can be dispensed without prescription (such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen) may be used. 1

·        Cold or hot foods and drinks may aggravate your pain, avoiding those will be a good decision. 1

·        Pasts and gels containing anesthetics or clove oil may help you get relief. 1,2

·        Adjusting your head position to be at higher level than your body will decrease blood pressure flowing to your head thus decreasing your pain. 2

·        Gargling with a mouthwash containing alcohol helps in disinfecting the mouth and causing gum numbness which temporarily relieves the ache.2

Making an appointment with your dentist will help you find the source of your pain as it could originate from your teeth, gums or jaws.1,2
