One of the most common conditions affecting the joints is osteoarthritis (OA), which is an inflammation distressing mainly the joint cartilage and the surrounding bone tissue. Stiffness, pain and tenderness in the joints are the chief complains. 1, 2,3

Knees, hips, hands are the joints mostly affected. The condition affects all aspects of life as it can disrupt your sleep and cause depression.

Who gets osteoarthritis? Why are some people more liable to get it that others?1, 2

There are some risk factors that you cannot change like:

·       Age - as blood supply to the joint declines and joint repair process is hindered

·       Family history – if it runs in your family then you’ll have a tendency to develop it

·       Being a female

Others factors that you can work on:

·       Being overweight or obese

·       Being an athlete or performing an occupation that overuses your knees or elbows

There is final relief from osteoarthritis, as it can't be reversed, but pain killer medications can help reduce pain. These include acetaminophen, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs). Physical therapy might be of great help.3
