If you are presenting to your health care professional with dizziness, you’ll be first asked about your symptoms and what they look like, then you’ll be given physical examination like how you walk and how you maintain balance. 1

Some hearing and balance test like: Eye and Head moving tests as well as Posturography and Rotary chair test are all test that gives the doctor an idea of your dizziness underlying cause. 1

Mostly your will not be requested to perform a laboratory testing unless being diagnosed with a chronic medical condition (such as diabetes, hypertension). In this case, your doctor may require some tests like blood glucose and electrolyte measurement.2,3,4

In patients suspected to be suffering from cardiac disease, ECG will be required. Magnetic resonance imaging might be also required in cases suggesting cerebrovascular diseases such as multiple sclerosis. 2,3,4

Studies have proven that in only 26% of patients have their laboratory testing results explained the cause of dizziness, thus careful history, physical examination and appropriate investigations play a very important role in identifying the cause.2,3
