Pregnant women can experience one of the most common complications during pregnancy which is Urinary tract infections (UTIs).1

Normally, the baby will add more pressure on your bladder, causing the bacteria in urethra or urinary tract to move up & become trapped causing an infection.1 You may experience pain in pelvis or a lower back pain, you might also suffer from a burning sensation or frequent urination. Urine can become cloudy or blood-tinged. You may also experience fever, nausea or vomiting.1

These infections can be dangerous as they increase the risk of premature labor1 but when caught early, most of them can be safely treated with antibiotics for 3-7 days.1, 2 Symptoms should stops in 3 days, however, if after taking the medication for three days, you still have a burning feeling while urinating, call your doctor.2, 3

Contact your healthcare provider if you have symptoms of UTI. Or, you can simply avoid them by emptying your bladder frequently & drinking plenty of water.1
